Part 1
How to tell if your roof may have hail damage, from the ground
- Tonight, with your phone. Photograph your car, your AC unit, your mailbox, and the ground under a downspout. The phone’s timestamp is your date. If you saved a hailstone or there’s one left in the shade, photograph it next to a coin.
- Tomorrow morning, in daylight. Walk the yard. Stripped leaves, dents in soft metal (vents, gutters, window screens), black grit under downspouts. Photograph what you find. Stay off the roof.
- When someone knocks. Take the card, say “I’m getting a written report first,” and sign nothing. A real contractor will still be here next week.
Part 2
12 questions to ask anyone who shows up
Ask them at the door, on the phone, or by text. A real contractor has a quick answer to every one; a wrong answer to any of them is your answer.
- Where is your shop, and how long have you been there?
- Can I read reviews from homeowners in my town?
- Will I get photos of my roof, in writing, before I sign?
- Who will be on-site when my adjuster inspects the roof?
- Does your contract say, in writing, that I pay my own part of the bill? (Texas law requires it.)
- Can you show me your certificate of insurance?
- Which shingle will you install, and are you certified by that manufacturer?
- What does your workmanship warranty cover, for how long, and is it in writing?
- Who is my one point of contact during the job?
- Will you pull any permit my city requires?
- How do you protect my yard, and who does the nail cleanup?
- If you find rotten decking, how is it priced, and will you show me photos first?
Part 3
We’re a roofer too. Use these on us.
Here are our answers to the first four, so you can start: the shop is at 3908 Williamson Rd in Crowley, and it was there before the storm. The reviews are on Google under our own name, 340 of them. Yes, you get photos of your roof in writing before you sign anything — that’s what the free drone survey is. And if there’s damage and you decide to file, someone from Legacy is on-site when your adjuster inspects.
The drone survey is free. Please be home, so we can get your OK to fly; you see the pictures before we leave, and the written report dated to the storm is yours whether you hire us or not. If the roof is fine, the report says so.
